FAA

About a year ago we heard that the FAA was letting anyone who wanted apply for air traffic control job positions. Many of the workers are up for retirement and there are opening all over the country and so to fill them they are letting anyone that wants apply. There were requirements like age, you have to have a degree, and physical things like eye sight. Cory went ahead and applied and after a few months we stopped really thinking anything was going to come of it. I guess the government just likes to take its sweet time because we were notified almost a month ago that they wanted him to come and take the AT-SAT (air traffic standard aptitude test) which is an 8 hour test. Not everyone gets invited to take the test, so we were glad for the opportunity.

Cory has really bad test anxiety, he will know the subject inside and out but tends to get nervous while testing that he wont do well and then its a self fulfilling prophecy. He got a study manual for the test and practiced for hours every day. He took the test on Monday. To pass the test you need to score at least a 70. Applicants are categorized as "well qualified" if they score above an 85. They said that rarely do they get scores above 90. I was hoping and praying all day while he was at that test that he would get at least 70, I feared he would score a 69 and how frustrating that would be.

We just got his score online, he got 87.4! I am so proud of him! I also am excited that he did so well because that means he is more likely to get the job, and it would be more money and better benefits with retirement and everything! Cory has applied for positions all over the states including one in salt lake city that he really wants. Some of the other locations are in Illinois, Georgia, Colorado, new Mexico, Rhode island, Virginia, and Arkansas. I hope he is selected for one of them!

Way to go, Cory. I hope he gets the Salt Lake job, cause I don't want to have to travel to another state to hang out with you and get hugs from Porter, and snuggles from Theo!

That's so exciting! I have to admit, I almost hope you come somewhere that'll be near where we'll be, but since we don't know where we'll be, I guess it doesn't matter. I was afraid as I was reading the beginning of the post that he hadn't taken the test yet, and then I was going to be on tenderhooks until I found out, but he did great on it! When do you find out about him getting the job?

Way to go, Cory! I've taken similar FAA tests (Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Instrument Pilot, and Certified Ground School Instructor. None were easy. My hat's off to anyone who can score over 87% on their first try. Most people don't even pass on their first try. Woo Hoo!
